The report has resulted in several criticism for the 66-year-old diplomat.
The report claimed that, “The commanding, 66-year-old businesswoman, diplomat, and Medal of Freedom recipient, … established the world’s largest breast cancer nonprofit, with its signature pink ribbon, in memory of her older sister, Susan in 1982. (Laura Bush, a close friend, was one of her original supporters and volunteers. After their mastectomies, Betty Ford and Nancy Reagan joined the group.)”
The issue has raised the question of the nature of breast cancer awareness. Critics argued that breast cancer awareness is not a charity as it is often portrayed. Instead, they argue that it has grown to become a lucrative business.
One such critic who was not identified stated that, “Let’s be honest about all this: people think of breast cancer as a charity, but it’s really a major business.”
Some breast cancer firms have stated in the past that Nancy’s firm Komen, have presented others from using the term “cure” in their campaign.
